(September 30, 2009)

Your Excellency,

Ladies and Gentlemen,

Good evening! Firstly, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I’d like to express our warm welcome to all the distinguished guests present.

Now, it’s 7 am Oct. 1st at Beijing time. It ushered in the 60th Anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China. We are a witness to a moment of historical significance, together with the 1.3 billion Chinese people, millions and thousands of Overseas Chinese and the foreign friends around the world. It’s the 60-year-old birthday of China. I’d like to propose, let’s say “Happy Birthday” together!

As we all know, China is one of the Four Great Ancient Civilizations in the world, with a long history of 5000 years and a very splendid culture. Suriname is famous for its tolerance and multi-culture. The Chinese Surinamese Community, which plays a great role as the carrier of the Chinese culture and the bridge of friendship between our two countries, has been an essential part of Suriname culture. I’m sure that the visit by the Suining Folk Art Troup to Suriname will further enrich the cultural exchanges between our two countries. There is a Chinese saying, “Jing shang tian hua”. It means the visit will “add flowers to the brocade”.

In the next month, Oct. 3rd is another very important Chinese traditional festival, the Mid-Autumn Festival. Today I’d like to wish you Happy Mid-Autumn Festival! Wish you enjoy the union of the family! And all the best to all the people present!

Next, let’s enjoy the magical charm of the Chinese culture, and enjoy the performance from the hometown of the Panda. Welcome the Suining Folk Art Troupe from Sichuan, China.

Thank you!
