(Paramaribo, March 17, 2017)
Ms. Agnes Daniƫl, Chief of KPS,
Ladies and gentlemen,
Good morning! Thank you for hosting today's ceremony. On behalf of the Chinese government, I would like to hand over two prisoner vans as aid given gratis to the Korps Politie Suriname. I hope the vehicles may assist Surinamese police to improve law enforcement and ensure better security to the neighborhood.
In the past a few months, there have been noticeably less criminal cases, which is surly attributed to enhanced and effective work of KPS. However, under the current economic circumstances, the challenge to public security remains severe and we are far from claiming an entire victory against crimes, which implies that the police still needs to press ahead with the battle.
As a friendly and reliable partner, China has all along been standing by Suriname. We have been trying to assist Suriname within our capacity. Apart from these prisoner vans, we donated 30 bulletproof vests to the police three months ago. In the coming two or three months, a team of experts will be visiting Suriname for the field study of the City Monitoring System Project. Also, we are exploring more opportunities of training courses for the KPS and facilitating a high-level meeting between the public security authorities of our two countries in China this year.
Ladies and gentlemen,
The police cooperation between the two countries has great potential and broad prospects. I firmly believe our cooperation today will herald more successful achievements in the future. The Chinese Embassy stands ready to assist the KPS in its effort to create a safer neighborhood for the society.
Thank you.
