Notice on Visa Requirements

    Except for special cases, all visa applicants must fill in the online visa application form, please follow the procedures below:

Eligible visa applicants (including those applying for diplomatic visas or service visas) first need to fill in the online visa application (https://cova.mfa.gov.cn) form, then print out the completed form fully with the confirmation page, and sign on both of them (item 9 on the visa application form).

Please choose your visa type according to the purpose of your travel:

Foreign crew members in international transportation, including aircrafts, trains and ships, motor vehicle drivers, and the accompanying family members of the crew.

Foreigners who intend to reside in China permanently.

Foreigners who intend to go to China for exchanges, visits, and other non-business activities.

Foreigners who intend to transit through China.

J1

Resident foreign journalists of foreign news organizations. stationed in China. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days.

J2

Foreign journalists who intend to go to China for short-term news coverage. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

L

Foreigners who intend to go to China as a tourist.

M

Foreigners who intend to go to China for commercial business.

Q1

Foreigners who are family members of Chinese citizens or of foreigners with Chinese permanent residence permit, and intend to go to China for family reunion, or to those who intend to go to China for the purpose of foster care. The intended duration of stay in China exceeds 180 days. (Family members include: spouse, parents, the parents of spouse, children, children’s spouses, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren).

Q2

Foreigners intending to visit their relatives who are Chinese citizens residing in China or foreigners with permanent residence permit in China. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days.

R

Foreigners who are high-level talents or whose skills are urgently needed in China.

S1

Foreigners who intend to go to China to visit the foreigners working or studying in China towhom they are spouses, parents, sons or daughters under the age of 18 or parents-in-law, or tothose who intend to go to China for other private affairs. The intended duration of stay inChina exceeds 180 days.

S2

Foreigners intending to visit their family members who are foreigners working or studying in China, or to those who intend to go to China for other private matters. The intended duration of stay in China is no more than 180 days. (Family members include: spouse, parents, the parents of spouse, children, children’s spouses, siblings, grandparents, and grandchildren)

X1

Foreigners who intend to study in China for a period of more than 180 days.

X2

Foreigners who intend to study in China for a period of no more than 180 days.

Z

Foreigners who intend to work in China.

  Please submit the following documents at the Chinese Embassy in Suriname:

1. Basic documents (for every applicant):

l Printed and signed visa application form and the confirmation page. The forms must be completely, truthfully and accurately filled in.

l Original passport and a copy of its information page (first page), the passport must be valid for 6 or more months with free pages.

l One recent 2-inch colored passport photo of your front face without a hat or cap.

l If the applicant is not a Surinamese, please submit proof of legal stay or residence in Suriname, such as residence permit, entry stamp, visa, etc.

l If the applicant was a Chinese citizen and had a Chinese passport, and it’s the first time for you to apply for a Chinese visa, please present the Chinese passport with a copy of its information page.

l If the applicant has invalid passports with Chinese visas, please present those passports with copies of the information pages, and copies of every Chinese visa. If the name of the applicant on the current passport is not the same as the name on their former passports, please submit an official proof for name changing.

2. Documents based on visa types:

Letter of guarantee from a foreign transportation company or invitation letter from a relevant Chinese institution.

Confirmation of long-term residence approval by the Department of Public Security of China.

Please note: Once entered China, the visa holder should apply for a residence permit to the Bureau of Public Security at the county-level or above where they want to reside within 30 days after entry.

F

Invitation letter from the Chinese inviting institution (universities, research centers etc.) or individual. It must include the following information:

l The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

l The invitee’s itinerary: purpose of visit, arrival and departure time, places of visit, the relationship between the inviting institution/inviter and the invitee, the bearer of travel cost, etc.;

l Information of the inviting institution or inviter: name, telephone number, address, the stamp of the organization, the signature of the representative of the organization or the inviter.

G

Interlined onward flight, train or ship tickets with specific departure time. For sea farers boarding from an open port in China, please submit a letter of guarantee from the sea transportation company (incl. ocean shipping agency).

J1

Approval to issue journalist visa by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC.

Please note: Once entered China, the visa holder should apply for a residence permit to the Bureau of Public Security at the county-level or above where they want to stay within 30 days after entry.

J2

1. Telegram by authorized Chinese institutes if invited to make media reports/films in China (incl. those shooting films or making TV programs in order to facilitate cultural exchanges between China and other countries, or to make reports on China).

2. Or approval to issue journalist visa by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of PRC for temporary journalists intended to work at resident foreign media agencies in China.

L

Round-trip tickets and reservations for accommodation, or invitation letters issued by organizations in China, such as travel agencies or individuals. If invited by individuals, the invitation letter (the original document or its copy, faxed copy, etc. are acceptable.) must be submitted alongside a copy of the inviter’s national ID card, and must include the following information:

l The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

l The invitee’s itinerary: arrival and departure time, places of travel, etc.;

l Information of the inviting organization or inviter: name, telephone number, address, the stamp of the organization, the signature of the representative of the organization or the inviter.

M

Invitation letter (the original document or its copy, faxed copy, etc. are accepted.) by a business organization in China, and it must include:

l The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

l The invitee’s itinerary: purpose of travel, arrival and departure time, places of visit, the relationship between the inviting organization/inviter and the invitee, etc.;

l Information of the inviting organization or inviter: name, telephone number, address, the stamp, the signature of the representative of the organization or the inviter.

Q1

If for family reunion, please submit:

1. an invitation letter by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner with permanent residence permit in China. The invitation letter must include the following information:

Ø The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

Ø The invitee’s itinerary: purpose of visit, arrival and departure time, places of stay in China, length of stay in China, their relationship with the inviter, the bearer of travel cost, etc.;

Ø Information of the inviting organization/inviter: name, telephone number, address, the signature of the inviter.

2. A copy of valid ID:

Ø The inviter’s ID or registration book for a Chinese inviter;

Ø Copy of passport information page and their permanent residence permit for a foreign inviter.

3. Proof of kinship between the inviter and the invitee (certificate of marriage, birth certificate, proof of kinship by a Bureau of Public Security or notarized proof of kinship)

If for foster care, please submit:

1. Letter of authorization for foster care notarized by a Chinese diplomatic mission or by an authorized institution.

2. Authorizer’s original passport, its copy, and a proof of the relationship between the authorizer and the child to be fostered (certificate of marriage, birth certificate, proof of kinship by a Bureau of Public Security or notarized proof of kinship).

3. A letter of acceptance of the responsibility of fostering by the foster.

4. If the parents/a parent of the child is a Chinese, a proof of residence-outside-China for the Chinese parent(s) when the child was born must be submitted.   

Please note: Once entered China, the visa holder should apply for a residence permit to the Bureau of Public Security at the county-level or above where they want to reside within 30 days after entry.

Q2

1. Invitation letter issued by a Chinese citizen or a foreigner who has permanent residence permit in China (the original document or its copy, faxed copy, etc. are accepted.). The invitation letter must include:

l The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

l The invitee’s itinerary: purpose of visit, arrival and departure time, places of visit, length of stay, their relationship with the inviter, the bearer of travel cost, etc.;

l Information of the inviter: name, telephone number, address, and the signature of the inviter.

2. Copy of valid ID:

l Copy of the Chinese ID or the Chinese registration book if the inviter is a Chinese citizen;

l Copy of the passport information page and of the permanent residence permit if the inviter is a foreigner.

R

The applicant should meet the relevant requirements by the competent authorities of the Chinesegovernment for high-level talents and individually with special skills urgently needed by China, and submit required documents.

S1

1. Invitation letter by a foreigner staying in China (the original document or its copy, faxed copy, etc. are acceptable.). The information on the invitation letter should include:

l The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

l The invitee’s itinerary: purpose of visit, arrival and departure time, places of residence in China, length of stay in China, their relationship with the inviter, the bearer of the travel cost, etc.;

l Information of the inviter: name, telephone number, address, the signature of the inviter.

2. Copy of passport and of permanent residence permit;

3. Original proof of relationship between the inviter and the invitee (certificate of marriage, birth certificate, proof of kinship by a Bureau of Public Security or notarized proof of kinship) and its copy.

Please note: Once entered China, the visa holder should apply for a residence permit to the Bureau of Public Security at the county-level or above where they want to reside within 30 days after entry.

S2

1. If for a short family visit, please submit:

l Copy of passport of the foreign inviter staying in China for work, study, etc. and their residence permit;

l Invitation letter (the original document or its copy, faxed copy, etc. are acceptable):

Ø The invitee’s personal information: name, gender, birthday, etc.;

Ø The invitee’s itinerary: purpose of visit, arrival and departure time, places of stay in China, length of stay in China, their relationship with the inviter, the bearer of travel cost, etc.;

Ø Information of the inviter: name, telephone number, address, the signature the inviter.

l Copy of proof of kinship between the inviter and the invitee (certificate of marriage, birth certificate, proof of kinship by a Bureau of Public Security or notarized proof of kinship).

2. If for private matter, please submit documents required by the consul.

2. The Original JW201 or JW202 form and its copy

Please note: Once entered China, the visa holder should apply for a residence permit to the Bureau of Public Security at the county-level or above where they want to reside within 30 days after entry.

Z

Please submit one of the following documents:

1. Foreigners Employment Permit of the People's Republic of China issued by Chinese government authorities for Human Resources and Social Security. if the applicant intends to work for no more than 90 days, they need to provide an Approval of Short-Term Employment for Foreigners Working in China. The actual worktime must not exceed the time indicated thereon.

2. Permit for Foreign Experts Working in China in the People’s Republic of China issued by the State Administration of Foreign Experts Affairs;

3. Registration certificate of the resident representative office of foreign enterprises issued by the related administrative department of industry and commerce;

4. An approval document for commercial performance issued by Chinese government authority for cultural affairs (only applicable to applicants for commercial performances in mainland China); if the applicant intends to perform for no more than 90 days, they need to provide an Approval of Short-Term Employment for Foreigners Working in China. The applicant must apply for a visa before the starting time on the Approval, and not perform exceed the time on the Approval.

5. Letter of Invitation to Foreigners for Offshore Petroleum Operations in China issued by China National Offshore Oil Corporation;

Please note: Except for those with visas clearly indicating legal stay in China within 30 days,Once entered China, the visa holder should apply for a residence permit to the Bureau of Public Security at the county-level or above where they want to stay within 30 days after entry.

Please note:

1. Invitation letters can be originals or copies, but they must be signed by the inviters. The consul has the authority to require the applicants to present the originals.

2. The consul may request other supporting documents from applicants when necessary, or request face-to-face interviews with the applicants.

3. The consul will make decisions regarding the issuance of visa, its valid period, length of stay and number of entry.

4. Applicants will not necessarily be allowed to enter China even if they have Chinese visas. Based on the Chinese law and regulations, the Chinese authorities for immigration will make a decision regarding border entry.
