Recently, during his visit to Suriname, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio made unfounded and unwarranted accusations regarding China's practical cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries. The Chinese Embassy in Suriname expresses its firm opposition to these remarks. The Embassy Spokesperson's response is as follows:
China has always adhered to the principles of mutual respect, equality, mutual benefit, openness, and inclusiveness in pursuing investment cooperation with Latin American and Caribbean countries. China’s practical cooperation with the region imposes no political strings, targets no third party, and aligns with the needs of Latin American nations. It embodies mutual benefit and win-win results, effectively contributing to the economic development and livelihood improvement of relevant countries including Suriname, delivering tangible gains and well-being to their peoples.
The United States, however, has been making unwarranted comments on the normal cooperation between Latin American countries and third parties, demonstrating a lack of basic respect for these nations. Its groundless accusations against China and deliberate attempts to drive a wedge between China and relevant Latin American countries are unpopular and will prove futile. As to who is truly practicing coercive diplomacy and resource exploitation in Latin America, the facts are clear to all. We urge the United States to seriously reflect on its own hegemonic acts, bullying practices, and exploitative plundering against developing countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, and to immediately cease its malicious distortions and smears against China.
