From June 7 to 8 June, the finals of the 24th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for University Students and the 18th Competition for High School Students in Suriname were successfully held in Paramaribo. The event was hosted by the Chinese Embassy in Suriname and organized by the Confucius Institute at Anton de Kom University of Suriname.
Attendees included Mr. Liu Zhenhua, chargé d’Affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Suriname; members of Parliament Mr. Wang Chuanrui and Mr. Stephen Tsang; Suriname’s Ambassador to China Ms. Pick Fung Ho-Chong; director of culture of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture, Mr. Dweight Warsodikromo; president of Anton de Kom University Dr. Shanti Venetiaan; as well as faculty and students of the Confucius Institute, representatives of Chinese enterprises, community leaders, contestants, and parents.
In his remarks, Mr. Liu highlighted that the “Chinese Bridge” competition offers Surinamese students a platform to showcase their Chinese language skills and understanding of Chinese culture. He encouraged more young people in Suriname to learn Chinese and become ambassadors for friendship and cooperation between China and Suriname.
The competition featured a vibrant and enthusiastic atmosphere. Contestants delivered themed speeches and showcased their talents through singing, dancing, calligraphy, poetry recitation, and other performances, expressing their deep appreciation for Chinese culture.
