On December 24th, Mr. Shi Yuanqiang, Charge D’affaires a.i.of the Chinese Embassy in Suriname gave an interview to the Surinamese on-line media Starnieuws.

In the interview Mr. Shi recalled the highlights of the biliteral relations between China and Suriname in 2013. He stressed that the two meetings between H.E. Mr. Xi Jinping, President of P.R. China and H.E. Mr. Desiré Delano Bouterse, President of Republic of Suriname within one month in last June infilled strong dynamism to the development of the bilateral relations. The consensus reached by the two heads of state would greatly promote the cooperation in varies fields between the two countries.

Mr. Shi also talked about the Chinese community in Suriname as this year marks the 160th anniversary of the first Chinese group settling in Suriname. “The Surinamese government and the local Chinese community, together with other ethnic groups organized series of activities to commemorate this historic moment, which embodied the comprehensive integration of the Chinese community into the local society and their significant contribution towards the development of Suriname.”Mr Shi said.

Mr. Shi told Starnieuws that 2013 is a remarkable year for our biliteral relations as the cooperation and exchanges between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy, culture etc., have reached a new high level. He is deeply convinced that this momentum will be maintained and the good relations will be further strengthened with the joint efforts by both sides in 2014.
