Recently, U.S. Ambassador to Suriname Robert Faucher, in an interview with De West, made unwarranted comments on China’s Belt and Road Initiative and on China–Suriname economic and financial cooperation. These remarks completely disregarded facts and were based on subjective assumptions. China expresses strong dissatisfaction and firm opposition to this.

The above-mentioned remarks by the U.S. side show disrespect toward both China and Suriname, and reflect the longstanding arrogance and prejudice of the United States in international relations. Distortion and smearing cannot “make America great again,” and begrudging others’ success cannot make the United States better. What the U.S. should truly do is to provide more assistance for Suriname’s development, rather than exerting pressure and imposing restrictions for its own selfish interests.
