On October 20, 2025, the Suriname Chinese United Association (SCUA) held an event at the Friendship Park in Paramaribo to commemorate the 172nd anniversary of Chinese immigration in Suriname. The event was attended by over a hundred guests, including Surinamese President Jennifer Geerlings-Simons, Vice President Gregory Rusland, Minister of Public Works and Spatial Planning Steven Tsang, Chairman of the National Jubilee Years Committee Jack Uden, several members of the National Assembly, as well as Chinese Ambassador to Suriname Lin Ji, President of the SCUA He Zhenxiong, and representatives of Chinese companies and Chinese communities in Suriname.

In his speech, Ambassador Lin Ji stated that over the past 172 years, the Chinese community has made significant contributions to Suriname's economic and social development and national building, becoming an integral part of Suriname's diverse society. He expressed the hope that the Chinese community in Suriname would continue to uphold the spirit of unity, mutual assistance, patriotism, and dedication. He also encouraged active preparations and participation in the upcoming 50th-anniversary celebrations of Suriname's independence, the construction of the "Chinese Immigration Commemorative Pavilion" at the Friendship Park, and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Suriname, aiming to make new and greater contributions to Suriname's development and progress and the continued strengthening of China-Suriname relations.

President Simons, in her address, reflected on the 172-year history, noting the hard work and perseverance of the Chinese community, their mutual assistance with other ethnic groups in Suriname, and their active integration into the Surinamese society, making them important members of Suriname's multicultural family. She emphasized that maintaining and strengthening friendly relations with the countries of origin of Suriname's residents, particularly China, is a key foreign policy direction of the new Surinamese government. She expressed the willingness to use the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Suriname and China next year to further deepen the friendly cooperation between the two countries.

Following the speeches, President Simons, Vice President Rusland, Ambassador Lin Ji, and President of the SCUA jointly conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the "Chinese Immigration Commemorative Pavilion". Ambassador Lin encouraged the Chinese community in Suriname to use the construction of the Pavilion to remember the footsteps of their ancestors, carry forward the China-Suriname friendship, and inspire future generations to continue moving forward hand in hand.
The attending guests also laid wreaths at the monument commemorating the arrival of the first Chinese indentured laborers in Suriname. The atmosphere was solemn and respectful. Mainstream Surinamese media provided full coverage of the commemorative event, and Ambassador Lin Ji gave an on-site interview to the Suriname Government Communication Service and other media outlets.
