On October 26 2025, Chinese Ambassador to Suriname Lin Ji published a signed article titled Working Together to Advance the Global Cause of Women in De Ware Tijd. The full text is as follows:

At present, the pursuit of gender equality has become a shared consensus of the international community. Women are playing an increasingly important role in economic, political, cultural and social life. In July this year, President Simons assumed office as Suriname’s first female head of state since independence 50 years ago, marking a new achievement in the advancement of women in the country.

Recently, Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the opening ceremony of the Global Women’s Summit in Beijing and delivered a keynote speech. He put forward four proposals for promoting the global cause of women through joint efforts:

First, we must uphold a common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable vision of security, and safeguard world peace. It is imperative to strengthen the protection of women and girls in regions afflicted by conflict, poverty and disaster, and to improve mechanisms against violence so as to resolutely combat all forms of violence targeting women.

Second, we should focus on addressing the imbalance and inadequacy of global women’s development, ensuring that all women can share in the fruits of economic globalization. We must harness the power of scientific and technological innovation to empower women’s development with higher quality, and help women realize their dreams and aspirations in the great wave of global modernization.

Third, we should improve institutions and laws to ensure that quality health and education resources benefit all women, enabling them to enjoy their rights more fully and fairly. It is essential to foster an inclusive and harmonious social environment, broaden women’s participation in political and public affairs, and support their active involvement in national and social governance, so that gender equality truly becomes a deeply rooted social consensus and code of conduct.

Fourth, we must support women in shouldering the responsibilities of the times and participating deeply in global governance, so that they may share in its outcomes. China supports the United Nations in playing a central role, calls for greater attention to the needs of women in developing countries, and stands ready to build broad platforms for cooperation among women of all nations, contributing to a world of shared beauty and mutual flourishing.

President Xi also announced that over the next five years, China will make an additional US$10 million donation to UN Women; provide US$100 million under the Global Development and South-South Cooperation Fund to support projects promoting the development of women and girls in cooperation with international organizations; assist in 1,000 “small yet beautiful” livelihood projects; invite 50,000 women to China for exchanges and training; and establish a Global Women’s Capacity-Building Center to cultivate more outstanding female talent through international cooperation.
