On February 11, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname hosted a Spring Festival reception to celebrate the Year of the Horse. H.E. Lin Ji, Chinese Ambassador to Suriname, attended the event alongside Surinamese dignitaries of Chinese descent, including Hon. Stephen Tsang, Minister of Public Works. They were joined by approximately 200 guests, including representatives of the overseas Chinese community and Chinese-funded enterprises in Suriname.

In his remarks, Ambassador Lin extended New Year greetings to the guests. He noted that 2025 marked the successful conclusion of China’s 14th Five-Year Plan, a year in which major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics remained highly proactive. He highlighted that the China-Suriname strategic partnership has progressed steadily, with the overseas Chinese community making significant contributions to both bilateral relations and Suriname’s national development.
Ambassador Lin emphasized that 2026 is the inaugural year of China’s 15th Five-Year Plan and also marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Suriname. With new opportunities on the horizon for bilateral relations, he expressed his hope that the overseas Chinese community would continue to serve as a catalyst for bringing friendly cooperation between the two nations to a new level.

The guests expressed their commitment to further strengthening their role as a bridge between the two cultures and contributing to the enduring friendship between China and Suriname. The reception was held in a warm, festive, and harmonious atmosphere.
