On May 28, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname held a reception marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of diplomatic ties between the two countries. Over 300 people were present, including Acting President Rusland of Suriname, multiple ministers, members of the National Assembly, political party leaders, people from all sectors of society, foreign diplomats stationed in Suriname, overseas Chinese in Suriname and representatives of Chinese-funded institutions.

In his speech, Ambassador Lin Ji said that China-Suriname relations have weathered changing international situations and gained renewed vitality. He emphasized that the two countries are sincere friends politically, reliable partners in economy and trade, close brothers in cultural and people-to-people exchanges, and natural allies in international affairs. He looked forward to further deepening political mutual trust, expanding practical cooperation, strengthening people-to-people exchanges and enhancing multilateral cooperation between the two sides, so as to jointly create a bright future for China-Suriname relations.

Acting President Rusland congratulated the two countries on the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and praised the time-honored friendship between China and Suriname. Suriname views China as a trustworthy and future-oriented strategic partner, and is willing to strengthen the strategic cooperative partnership with China and carry forward the age-old friendship between the two nations.

The guests watched artistic performances, and the event was filled with a cordial and warm atmosphere.
