On June 11, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Suriname held a ‘Consular Protection into Chinese Communities’ event at Kong Ngie Tong Sang. Ambassador Lin Ji attended and delivered remarks; approximately 40 representatives from major overseas Chinese organizations, including the Suriname Chinese United Association, and the Chinese Enterprises Chamber of Commerce in Suriname participated.

Ambassador Lin stated that consular protection is one of the core tasks through which the Embassy upholds the principle of serving the people through diplomacy, and that the motherland has always been a strong support for Chinese nationals living in Suriname. Currently, security risks such as theft and robbery are on the rise in Suriname. It is hoped that by organizing the ‘Consular Protection into Chinese Communities’ event, the Embassy can help Chinese nationals living in Suriname raise their safety awareness and enhance their capabilities in joint prevention, mutual protection, and self-rescue.

Sun Kaize, Director of the Embassy’s General Affairs Office, delivered a presentation on consular protection, explaining China’s policies on consular protection and assistance. Drawing on specific case studies, he provided guidance on preventive measures for consular protection and engaged in a Q&A session to address issues of concern to the overseas Chinese.

Representatives from the overseas Chinese organizations and the Chamber of Commerce in attendance expressed their gratitude for the Embassy’s care and assistance. They pledged to continue supporting one another, proactively fulfill their social responsibilities, and actively cooperate with the Embassy in its consular protection efforts to jointly build a safe and harmonious overseas Chinese community in Suriname.
