On October 24, 2026, Lin Ji, Chinese Ambassador to Suriname, attended the award ceremony of the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship held at the Confucius Institute of the University of Suriname. The Chinese and Surinamese directors, board members, as well as faculty and student representatives of the Confucius Institute were present.

Ambassador Lin congratulated the award-winning students. He noted that Suriname boasts enormous development potential and that young students shoulder the important mission of advancing the country’s sustainable development. He encouraged the students to study diligently and seize opportunities. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Suriname. China stands ready to work with Suriname to earnestly implement the four Global Initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping, deepen cultural and educational cooperation between the two countries, help Suriname cultivate more outstanding young talents, pursue common development, and jointly build a community with a shared future for mankind.

A total of 37 students from various institutions across Suriname and 5 teaching organizations received awards at this event. The recipients expressed gratitude for the strong support from the Chinese Embassy and pledged to serve as a bond to carry forward the time-honored friendship between China and Suriname.
