H.E. Mr. Yang Zigang, Chinese Ambassador to Suriname, attended the commencement of the Chinese Course for officials of the Surinamese government on February 3rd. Chairman of Kong Ngie Tong Sang Thompson Cheung and Director of the Chinese School in Suriname Lin Shaobo were also present.

According to Chairman Cheung's introduction, 15 Surinamese officials from various governmental departments have completed the 6-month Chinese course and achieved a fairly good level of Chinese in terms of listening, speaking, reading and writing.

Ambassador Yang issued certificate for each official and stressed in his remarks that Suriname is a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural country; the Chinese community is an important and integral part of the Surinamese society. Learning Chinese is conducive to deepening the understanding of Chinese culture and making other ethnic groups in Suriname know more about the Chinese community. Ambassador Yang hoped that the officials can kept on learning Chinese and make greater contribution to the friendship between China and Suriname.
